Schola Cantorum is both an academic and performance based class. Students will learn how to read and navigate traditional Gregorian notation. The course will address correct Latin pronunciation, the notes and the neums of chant, chant modality, rhythm of plainsong, the history of chant in the liturgy, solfeggio, a comparison of chant notation to modern musical notation, performance skills and etiquette, vocal technique including but not limited to: breath support, tone and resonation, and correct muscle usage. All choristers will be expected to participate in singing the Missa Cantata Choral parts at select Sunday Masses (Extraordinary Form), a schedule for which will be announced.
